GPS Phones as Swine Flu Detector…

Swine influenza (also called swine flu, hog flu, and pig flu) is an infection by any one of several types of swine influenza virus. Swine influenza virus (SIV) is any strain of the influenza family of viruses that is endemic in pigs.[2] As of 2009, the known SIV strains include influenza C and the subtypes of influenza A known as H1N1, H1N2, H3N1, H3N2, and H2N3 (wikipedia).

According to latest reports, the Japanese government is planning to glue up the mobile phone technology and GPS to track patients and also to make the public aware of the average contamination of swine flu. Japanese government and the largest mobile operator, Softbank plans to conduct a preliminary test on a thousand elementary school students.

The main purpose of this exercise is going to find victims of the flu, if proven it can be an effective measure to prevent outbreak of swine flu. Students selected for this test can continue their normal routines, but they will be provided with a GPS phone. Victims of swine influenza were also included in the thousands of candidates. The test of GPS can provide accurate information on the number of people exposed to influenza due to each individual patient.

The basic idea of this trial run is to warn people about the risks of exposure. Since the swine flu was spread across the globe because of its highly contagious nature, the test personnel believe may be limited to a very large extent by the reduction of contact for vulnerable populations. Softbank official said that the rate of flu victims is increasing in the conduct because of the widespread nature. The official said that if this rate of spread is decreased, even by a small amount, it may hinder the global outbreak of disease.

The project is at planning stage. Although the potential of this test is clear, there are legal issues in the monitoring of people constantly. Softbank spokesman said the trial test may better than Tamiflu.
